What is Diamond Lace?

Diamond Lace, also known as Diamond Net, is an advanced material used in hair replacement systems, prized for its exceptional comfort, durability, and natural look. This lace provides clients with a realistic, comfortable, and long-lasting hair solution. It is often incorporated into silk top wigs, toppers, select wigs, and thin skin hair systems for added quality and performance.

Diamond Lace is primarily used as the inner layer of a hairpiece base to provide optimal breathability and comfort. This layering approach maximizes the benefits of Diamond Lace. Hair is knotted onto a top layer of French or Swiss lace or monofilament, while the diamond lace underneath offers a soft, breathable foundation against the scalp.

What are the benefits of using Diamond Lace?

Diamond Lace Strengthens the Base Structure

With its interwoven fabric layers, diamond lace is thicker and less stretchy than French and Swiss lace. Positioned beneath the material covering the top of the head, it provides a stable foundation for wigs and hairpieces. This added stability helps maintain the shape of the base and prevents slippage, ensuring the hair system stays securely in place without warping.

Diamond Lace Protects the Knots

When used as an inner layer in a mesh hair system (typically paired with lace or monofilament), Diamond Lace serves an essential role in safeguarding the knots. Despite its larger holes, the fabric effectively prevents the knots from rubbing against the wearer’s scalp, helping them stay secure and reducing the risk of loosening.

Diamond Lace Prevents Irritation

Positioned as a middle layer between the hair knots and the scalp, Diamond Lace prevents knots from rubbing directly against the skin, reducing the risk of irritation or allergic reactions. Its large holes provide excellent breathability, and the soft texture enhances comfort, ensuring a soothing experience for the scalp.

Diamond Lace Is Undetectable

When hair is knotted onto Diamond Lace, its large diamond-shaped holes might be noticeable to the keenest eyes. However, since Diamond Lace is used as the inner or bottom layer, with hair tied to upper layers of lace or monofilament, the hair distribution remains unaffected by the distinctive pattern. Additionally, diamond lace blends seamlessly with the scalp, making it entirely undetectable.

Why Isn’t Diamond Lace Used as the Sole Layer in Hairpieces?

Unlike French and Swiss lace, Diamond Lace is rarely used as the only layer in a hairpiece with hair directly knotted onto it. Here’s why:

Knotting hair onto Diamond Lace presents unique challenges.

While Diamond Lace is more durable than French or Swiss lace, its construction has some quirks. The diamond-shaped openings are created from interwoven fabric layers or individual threads. Attempting to knot hair onto these single threads can risk tearing the lace due to its delicate structure.

Diamond-Shaped Holes Are Too Large

Although Diamond Lace is lightweight and transparent, its diamond-shaped holes are larger than those in French and Swiss laces. This larger pattern can reveal more of the wearer’s scalp in a noticeable diamond shape. While the lace material can melt seamlessly into the scalp, the gaps between hair knots may be too visible, which may not appeal to most wearers looking for a natural look.
